Cheats! It looks like one thing, but it's another. It's a cheat! In the historical recreation groups where appearance means more than strict adherance to period methods (for example, the Society for Creative Anachronism), such cheats abound. The object of the exercise is for you to be able to enjoy a modern convenience while hiding the mundane artifact from the eyes of folks who would rather enjoy the historical ambiance. In many ways I am a purist... but I also recognize the need for good theatre from time to time. Enjoy these cheats!
If you have a particularly ingenious cheat, and would like to contribute an article to "Cheats!", e-mail me at henry@thescholarsgarret.com
